My New "MaxiTear"
Page Two - 6/14/01 to 7/16/01

6/14/01 - Yes, we've continued to work, even though I haven't posted any photos this week...as you can see I have the paneling done and today my welder friend, Steve, is over in the heat from the beautiful coastal weather.  What a sacrifice!  The trailer has been customized to fit my design.  The tongue of the trailer was removed, we cut out a lot of the front and back portions, the frame at the kitchen floor was dropped down to be level with the door, and everything has been welded and bolted in place.  To answer a whole lot of questions, YES, I would do it differently the next time.  Remember, I'm doing this by trial and error.  But, it is working out very well for what I have designed.  Everyone is asking about the weight of the trailer behind my PT Cruiser...With the extra weight cut off the trailer and using as light of material as possible, I will be able to tow it, however, I know I won't be taking any extreme hills and the ones I do take, will be slow going.  Here's a few more photos taken throughout the day.

It's the end of the day and here's the final results...I am SOOOOOO happy!!!

6/18/01 - Back to the grind...after 3 days not working on the trailer, I went into withdrawal pains!!!  We have most of the floor in the trailer and Delta even has made her presence known in the trailer...she has her spot all scoped out!  The only problem I am having is not enough time to work on the trailer and the heat...couldn't I have started this project in the middle of winter???  Here's some photos of the current look!

I Say - Did you Want Something???

6/20/01 - I've gotten a portion of the floor in...where I am sitting will be the head of the bed and underneath will be a storage space with hinged lid under the end of the mattress.  My feet are in the middle of the cabinets and closet area.  In the photos above, you can see where the booth will be located at the front of the trailer.  I have to get the wheel wells boxed in and the rest of the flooring in.  Then I'll start on the cabinetry, etc.

p.s. - The guy in the pictures is my little brother who came up from Santa Clarita to visit me today.  Nice surprise, but no work got done today!  :)

6/28/01 - It has been a week since posting photos.  Now I can say that I have the wheel wells in, most of the floor and the wells have been undercoated.  We even got our floor covering this week for the kitchen area...classic black and white 6" checkerboard!  It's too cool!!!

This picture shows the entire floor, the opening in the back will be hinged openings to make storage under the head of the bed.

This shot shows the floor below the booth.  I will be covering up the frame.  You can see where and how I bolted the walls to the frame in this shot.

The center green area will be covered with the kitchen area, closet, and lots of storage.  That's to be built next week...at least that's the plans at this point in time.

Here's one just for fun - me and two of my Grandkids on the bed!!!!  Also, you can see the tops of the wheel wells before we finished them off.

7/2/01 - These are the fabric samples that we're awaiting to order.  We've chosen to go with a 50's tropical theme in the trailer.  The top fabric will be the bedcover and the bottom fabric will be the back cushions in the booth and also throw pillows for the bed.  We both really like these fabrics and are looking forward to getting them.  They are on the expensive side, but it will be worth it.....won't it???

Are you wondering why there's no pix of the trailer progress?  It's because it is just too hot for me to work this week...I am hoping to get to do something soon.

7/11/01 - FINALLY, it is cool enough to get some work done and I had to spend most of the day work, working...isn't that the way it goes!!!  Well, we've continued to do some work during the week.  The trailer hitch came for the PTCruiser and my son installed it in less than an hour.  It was ordered through JCWhitney  and, with the instructions, it was pretty easy to put on.  It was about $120 for the part.  I hitched the trailer onto the Cruiser and took it for a test run around the parking area with my son and wife on it...it didn't feel like there was anything behind the car.  I even tried to jacknife it...no such luck!  I couldn't turn tight enough to get it into trouble.  I'm sure the key to it is the tandem axles!

Also, we received the samples of fabrics and have chosen not to go with the fabric for the booth (too much red for us).  We're now on the look for another upholstery fabric.  If you want to get a good idea of what is out there, go to Barkcloth Hawaii's website.  Nyna has a lot of really cool fabrics and she's very nice too...make sure to tell her that we sent you! :)

This is the awning fabric that we will be using.
